I think it's difficult to abandon everything familiar for the completely unknown. When something is already a part of your life and it suddenly change, then you will feel uncomfortable.
Here is my own experience. My sister studied aboard over a year, after she came back, our home suddenly have one more person, at that time, I feel our home is too small and it is hard to accept that change.
